I tell you, sometimes I couldn't even make this stuff up. In a SPEEDTV interview after the Denver GP, Mario Dominguez had this explanation for a late-race near-disaster when he ran off-course under braking for turn 4:
"I almost lost the podium because I made a mistake and I pressed the water button [on the steering wheel] instead of the radio," said Dominguez.
Having sprayed the inside of his helmet with water (good thing it wasn't Gatorade, Mario!), he was so distracted trying to clean off the inside of his visor that he missed his braking point. Fortunately there was no damage done, and he recovered to finish second.
First Sato, now Dominguez. You have to wonder how many other driver interface fiascos are being kept secret by embarassed drivers...
